Workshop information

Friday 6 - Saturday 7 August 2021

On behalf of the Competition Law and Policy Institute of New Zealand (CLPINZ), I am delighted to advise that the 32nd annual workshop will take place at Chapman Tripp in Wellington on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 August 2021.

The keynote speaker for our workshop this year is Dennis W. Carlton. Dennis is the David McDaniel Keller Professor of Economics at the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago where he teaches in the Business School, Law School and Economics Department. Dennis will be speaking on the topic of merger retrospectives.

Other sessions will cover a range of interesting and topical issues including antitrust and sustainability, the economic regulation of water in New Zealand, and a panel discussion on Australia's News Media Bargaining Code featuring Stuff Editor in Chief Patrick Crewsdon, NZME's General Counsel Allison Whitney, and Facebook's Australian competition counsel, Wayne Leach, Head of Competition at King & Wood Malleson.

We are very excited about the programme and hope that there is something for everyone!

The workshop dinner will take place at Dockside Restaurant which is a short walk from the workshop venue. The price of the dinner includes a 3-course menu with wines and we will also have a guest speaker. We are confident that you will enjoy the dinner if you choose to join us!

Hybrid Workshop

Due to the continued uncertainty around travel restrictions, we are running a hybrid workshop. This means that the workshop will be taking place in Wellington but also being live streamed to our virtual platform. We encourage anyone who can attend in person to do so and make the most of the networking opportunities. However, if you are unable to travel to New Zealand you can still join us in a virtual capacity for all sessions.

In addition, if alert levels in New Zealand change at the last minute and we are unable to safely run an in person workshop, all registrations will be converted to the virtual platform.
